MTNL of India and Orascom of Egypt have had their bids for Saudi Arabia’s third cellular licence rejected. The Saudi Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has studied the financial and technical aspects of all nine applications and approved seven bidders: MTN (South Africa), MTC (Kuwait), Turkcell (Turkey), Oger Telecom (Dubai), Reliance Telecom (India), Bharti (India) and Digicel (Jamaica). The CITC will open the sealed bids of the remaining applicants on 24 March and these will be studied, and a winner selected.
