Free phones for the poor

15 Mar 2007

Vietnamese telco EVN Telecom, formerly VP Telecom, has announced it is giving 110,000 fixed wireless CDMA phones to poor and needy families, with free installation and one year’s subscription. The plan has been submitted to the Ministry of Post and Telematics for approval, and once it is given the go-ahead, EVN will install the new phones within three months. EVN, owned by the country’s electricity board, claimed 800,000 subscribers at the end of February, 80% of which subscribe to its fixed wireless E-Com service.
