WiMAX at Algérie Télécom

14 Mar 2007

Algeria’s largest telco is close to launching its first WiMAX wireless broadband networks in three cities. Algérie Télécom is reportedly looking at deploying WiMAX in Algiers, Boumerdes and Blida, with an expansion later in the year to include four more cities: Oran, Annaba, Constantine and Ouargla. Algérie Press Service quotes the telco’s chairman, Slimane Khireddine, who says that WiMAX will be used to fill the gaps in Algérie Télécom’s fixed broadband coverage. ‘Internet users will be able to receive not only telephony, but also broadband internet at competitive prices,’ he added.
