Uzbeki cellco Coscom claims that the decision by the local telecoms regulator to force it to cease operations over a ten-day period in February has led to the loss of up to 15% of its subscriber base. Abraham Smith, the company’s Director General, said 15% of customers have officially revoked contracts while voice traffic over its network has fallen by 40%.
According to the Uzbekistan Agency for Communications & Information (UzACI) Coscom had its licence suspended because it failed to inform it of a network disruption that occurred at the end of January, in contravention of the terms of its licence. Before the ‘incident’ Coscom was the third largest mobile operator in Uzbekistan with around 400,000 users.
