NTT West, Alvarion deploy wireless broadband network

13 Mar 2007

NTT’s regional fixed line unit NTT West has successfully deployed a broadband network in Okinawa using Alvarion’s BreezeACCESS VL system. Alvarion, a leading provider of WiMAX and wireless broadband solutions, has a long-term relationship with NTT West, which has adopted the VL system at 4.9GHz to answer its Tier 1 carrier requirements for offering wireless broadband services and fast internet access to residences and municipalities on the Okinawa islands of Tokashiki, Zamami and Aka. Okinawa’s topography makes the rollout of wireline-based broadband networks uneconomical and impractical, whereas the BreezeACCESS VL platform is a much more cost-effective system, enabling the operator to offer triple-play services to both business and residential subscribers.
