Magyar Telekom hints at acquisitions ‘home and abroad’ in 2007

13 Mar 2007

Christopher Mattheisen, the chief executive officer of Magyar Telekom, Hungary’s largest telecoms company by subscribers, says the firm is looking for growth through acquisitions at home and abroad to offset declining sales from its core domestic fixed line business. In an interview, Mattheisen confirmed that the company’s focus on the southeastern European markets – in terms of possible acquisition targets – continues. ‘We have a healthy balance sheet. We’re looking for growth and synergies or a combination of those’, he said. ‘Our balance sheet can help us with a pure cash acquisition, or if debt needs to be taken, it can help with that, too,’ Mattheisen added.
