Pay-TV firm teams up with Nortel to trial WiMAX network in Brazil

8 Mar 2007

Brazilian pay-TV company TVA has announced it is rolling out a trial WiMAX broadband network based on 4G equipment supplied by Canada’s Nortel Networks. TVA already offers triple-play TV, broadband and VoIP services, and says it is preparing to begin pre-commercial pilot trials of WiMAX in Q2 2007 in São Paulo. TVA’s technology director Virgilio Amaral told BNamericas, ‘We need to evaluate the limits of the technology,’ adding that it will take time to do this and a full commercial rollout is not expected until 2008 at the earliest. No details were provided on the level of investment earmarked for the project.
