Norway’s Telenor and Russia’s Altimo (part of Alfa Group) are interested in buying stakes in Swedish telecoms group TeliaSonera, writes Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter (DN). Sweden’s government recently announced that it planned to sell part of its 45.3% stake in the telco. Preliminary negotiations involving Telenor and the Norwegian and Swedish governments have already been initiated, according to unnamed sources quoted by DN. ‘We do not comment on which businesses we are interested in,’ said Scott Engebrigtsen, Telenor’s information manager, whilst TeliaSonera also declined to comment on the information, although its top-level management confirmed that its ownership structure is currently high on its agenda. Telia and Alfa hold joint stakes in mobile ventures including Russia’s MegaFon and Turkey’s Turkcell.
