5 Mar 2007

Forbes is reporting that the Albanian government is considering selling its 12.5% stake in Albanian Mobile Communications (AMC). AMC, which operates over a GSM-900/1800 network, offers pre-paid services under the Albakarta banner, and launched GPRS for corporate post-paid users in 2005, later making the data platform available to residential subscribers. As it stands, AMC is 85% owned by COSMO-Holding Albania, in which Greek cellco Cosmoté holds 97% and Telenor 3%. According to the report, Cosmoté, a subsidiary of Greek fixed line incumbent OTE, has said it would be interested in acquiring the stake at a ‘reasonable price’.
