Rwanda Terracom deploys EV-DO

2 Mar 2007

ITWeb, a South African technology news site, reports that Rwanda Terracom has deployed a CDMA2000 1x EV-DO network in Kigali, the capital city, with Huawei supplying the equipment as part of a general network upgrade. Newly-appointed CEO Christopher Lundh revealed that the company plans to extend its existing upgrade contract with Huawei in the hope that ‘the whole country will have access to CDMA technologies in the next few months.’ In addition to EV-DO services, Terracom embarked on a USD20 million fibre-optic deployment project in 2003, which will eventually see the whole country linked by fibre-optic cable. The Rwandan government recently criticised Terracom for its high broadband tariffs. Lundh believes the new network will lead to a more affordable pricing system.
