Rapid growth reported at TCI, MCI

Telecommunications Company of Iran (TCI) says its cellular subsidiary MCI has passed the 15 million-subscriber mark. The operator had 15.16 million customers in mid-February, with more than 4.85 million in the capital, Tehran. Meanwhile, TCI itself says fixed line subscriber numbers stand at 22.32 million, Taliya News reports. Both the wireline and the wireless subscriber bases are growing rapidly; TCI had 20.34 million fixed line customers and 8.51 million cellular subscribers at the start of 2006, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database.
