National statistics institute Indec has revealed in a statement, quoted by BNamericas, that mobile lines in service increased 42% year-on-year to 32.3 million at the end of January 2007. Mobile traffic for the first month of the year stood at 1.98 billion calls, up by almost a quarter on the corresponding period last year. Intec went on to reveal that fixed line local telephony traffic for January grew 7.3% year-on-year to 1.03 billion calls, while domestic long-distance calls increased by 23.8% to 242 million. Outgoing international calls climbed 16.7% while the number of minutes rose 13.9%. The institute stated that Argentina now has 9.04 million fixed lines in service, up 1.6% from January 2006.
