Alcatel-Lucent to roll out urban Wi-Fi network in Paris

The city of Paris has jointly awarded Alcatel-Lucent and mobile operator SFR a contract to supply and integrate the first urban Wi-Fi network in France. Under the deal, the vendor will integrate and deploy the turnkey network and SFR will be responsible for its operation, monitoring and maintenance. The launch of the new Wi-Fi network will take place in the third quarter of 2007 and will enable the city of Paris to offer broadband internet wireless access via 400 new access points. Parisians and visitors to the city will benefit from access to Wi-Fi services, free of charge.
