Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp’s (NTT’s) fixed line units, NTT East and NTT West, plan to spend a total of JPY855 billion (USD7.23 billion) on network investments in the fiscal year beginning 1 April 2007, reports Reuters. The telco is trying to migrate users to faster, more cost-efficient fibre-optic networks and encourage them to sign up to new internet-based offerings to offset declining sales from traditional voice call services. NTT East and West are looking to sign up 3.4 million fibre-optic subscribers in the coming fiscal year and have a mid-term goal of 30 million fibre-optic accounts by 2010.
