China Telecom and China Netcom have agreed not to intrude into each other’s area of business in the China mainland, according to reports in the national press. China Telecom will stop looking for new business in northern China while China Netcom will do the same in the south, The Standard reported, citing industry sources. However, no fixed date for the agreement has been set. In January, China Netcom said it planned to sell its assets in the Guangdong and Shanghai municipalities to its parent. After the sale of these assets, the company will be positioned to concentrate solely on its resources in northern China.
