Omantel profit soars

Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel), incumbent and sole wireline operator, has announced profits of OMR81.1 million (USD210.7 million) for 2006, on annual revenues of OMR323.6 million. Compared to 2005, profit was up 19% and revenue up 20%. Omantel spent 2006 expanding its 100% digital networks, with particular focus on rolling out wireless in the local loop (WiLL) services to hitherto unserved rural communities.
