Mobile-8 reports 116% growth in West Java

Mobile-8 Telecom has reported that subscriber growth in West Java reached 116% in 2006, boosting the company’s total user base in the area to 350,000 by end-December. Mobile-8 Senior Area Manager for West Java area Winetou Lubis said the strong performance illustrated the huge potential for the region: ‘By end of 2006, West Java area had recorded approximately 350,000 subscribers for both our pre-paid and post-paid services. Thus, it clearly shown high confidence from the public towards our Fren product as well as a significant cellular telecommunication growth towards the cellular penetration in West Java area through our base transceiver stations (BTS) which are located up to various district areas,’ said Winetou.

Mobile-8 plans to add 65 new BTS by the end of 2007 to further expand the coverage network in West Java, up from around 50 at the end of last year. It is also introducing new value added services and innovative products to entice users onto its network and recently extended its low-cost IDR7 / 30 second offer until end of 2007. It has also started the first phase of its national expansion rollout plan outside Java, and plans to increase the number of active BTSs from 440 now to 1,900 by the end of 2007 in Sumatera, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Bali.
