Cellco launches converged fixed-mobile service, Oi Flex

26 Feb 2007

Brazilian mobile operator Oi, backed by domestic fixed line operator Telemar, has launched a fixed-mobile convergence service based on a personal handyphone service (PHS), writes BNamericas citing local newspaper Valor Econômico. The new service, dubbed Oi Flex, uses cordless technology to enable users to make mobile calls at fixed line rates when within a 100m radius of their access point. Once the customer moves beyond this maximum limit the phone switches to Oi’s mobile network.
