Study predicts USD63 million international roaming revenues in next five years

23 Feb 2007

BNamericas reports that a study conducted by Signals Consultancy has predicted that international roaming in Uruguay will generate USD63 million in the period 2007-11, representing 3.8% of the total revenues generated by the cellular market over the same period. In 2011, the study predicts roaming will generate USD10.3 million, down 37% compared to 2006’s figure, due to decreasing roaming charges. Signals said that international roaming is not a significant earner for cellcos as it is much easier for them to generate revenues from other value added services. A previous survey by Signals predicted that in 2011 the annual revenue generated by Uruguay’s telecoms sector could reach USD800 million.
