Orcon awards IP deal to Siemens

21 Feb 2007

New Zealand’s fourth largest internet service provider Orcon has awarded Siemens Networks a contract to deploy an IP-based network. The four-year deal will see Siemens install networks which will enable Orcon to offer voice-over-IP telephony services to residential and business users. ‘With our new investment we are moving from being an ISP and voice reseller to being a fully fledged carrier,’ says Orcon’s general manager, Scott Bartlett. The operator is taking advantage of new legislation which will force the country’s incumbent telco, Telecom New Zealand, to offer a ‘naked DSL’ product, allowing companies like Orcon to bundle high speed internet and IP-based voice services.
