Deutsche Telekom signs NGN deal with IBM

20 Feb 2007

German incumbent Deutsche Telekom (DT), Europe’s largest telco by revenues, has signed a deal with US vendor IBM to transform the former’s fixed line infrastructure into a next generation network (NGN), reports Wireless News. IBM will be supplying servers and developing specialist software to enable the transfer of DT’s existing network to new IP-based infrastructure. No specifics, such as the value of the deal, or the expected completion date were given. DT, which provides wireline services under the banner T-Com, plans to offer its fixed line customers a large range of internet and telephony services over the IP-based NGN.
