TeliaSonera Sweden has announced that it will launch a trial of high speed packet access (HSPA) mobile broadband technology in parts of Stockholm and Gothenburg in the second quarter of this year. HSPA-enabled handset and laptop users in the selected areas will be able to access the internet at connection speeds of up to 3.6Mbps, the company claimed in a press release. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, at the end of 2006 TeliaSonera’s 3G W-CDMA services covered 96% of the country’s population, offering mobile data transmission speeds of up to 384kbps.
