Alcatel-Lucent and ITI, India’s largest telecom equipment manufacturing company, have announced two new contracts from Indian wireless network operators. The first, from Mumbai-based MTNL, is for the supply and installation of two million GSM lines. The multi-million euro contract covers the expansion of MTNL’s radio access and next-generation core network in Mumbai and is based on Alcatel-Lucent’s GSM/EDGE and W-CDMA/HSPA technologies. The second deal is also for the supply and installation of two million GSM lines, this time from BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited). The contract covers the expansion of BSNL’s mobile network coverage in Western India.
