13 Feb 2007

Iran’s largest phone operator TCI says it expects eight billion SMS text messages to be sent in the current calendar year, which ends on 20 March. Taliya News quotes the firm’s head of public relations, Davoud Zare’ian, who says that customers have sent an average of six messages a day over the past twelve months, with the Ghadir Eid festival on 8 January seeing the highest daily seeing record traffic of 72 million messages in one day. Iran is home to around twelve million cellular subscribers, with TCI’s wholly owned subsidiary MCI claiming around 92% of the total market.
