Telkom prepares rate cuts

12 Feb 2007

Telkom South Africa is working with the government and rival operators on plans which should see it lower its call termination rates this year. South Africa’s President Thabo Mbeki told Parliament that the move will benefit all consumers. Telkom is also planning to implement a special reduced rate for up to ten international call centres to help the development of the country’s call centre market, reports the South African Press Association. Telkom has a 50% stake in Vodacom, the largest cellular operator in South Africa.
