DoCoMo 4G field test achieves 5Gbps downlink

12 Feb 2007

In recent field trials, Japanese mobile operator NTT DoCoMo says it achieved an approximate downlink data rate of 5Gbps, doubling the previous record of 2.5Gbps achieved in December 2005. The company is using so-called Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MIMO) technology to conduct the tests. MIMO takes advantage of multiple antennas capable of transmitting signals independently of each other via spatial multiplexing.
