Reports from Asia suggest that China Unicom is looking at taking a stake in Taiwanese mobile operator Asia Pacific Broadband Wireless (APBW). ChinaTechNews says the sale price is rumoured to be around TWD6 billion (USD182 million), although the size of the stake involved has not been specified. China Unicom is China’s second largest cellular operator, with 142.4 million subscribers at the end of December. APBW operates CDMA2000 2.5G and 3G networks and claimed around a million customers at end-2006.
