Virgin Media close to Cable & Wireless tie-up - report

8 Feb 2007

A report carried by the British broadsheet The Times suggests Virgin Media, the new nom de guerre of ntl/Telewest, is close to announcing a strategic tie-up with Cable & Wireless (C&W) to help it provide telecoms and television services to homes not served by its existing cable network. The deal with Virgin Media would mark a significant coup for C&W, which has been seeking to push into the wholesale provision of broadband services since the failure of its consumer internet offering Bulldog. The tie-up could see C&W provide access to Virgin to 12.5 million British homes.
