Five interested in 3G concessions

8 Feb 2007

Russia’s Federal Communications Agency says just five companies have applied for documents allowing them to take part in the forthcoming tender for three 3G mobile licences. Prime Tass reports that applications have been received from the country’s three largest cellular operators – MTS, Vimpelcom and MegaFon – plus the Network Telecommunications Company consortium, whose members include smaller mobile operators SMARTS and Tele2, and from St Petersburg-based Summa Telecom, a telco which has recently been awarded licences for IP telephony, wireless broadband and long-distance services. Bids for 3G concessions are being accepted until 26 February, with the results to be announced on 20 April.
