United Arab Emirates’ second national operator Du has confirmed that it will launch mobile services on 11 February. Customers will be able to pay for their booked numbers online from that date. Du’s network will initially cover 85% of the populated areas of the country. The Telecoms Regulatory Agency (TRA) had previously set a deadline for the launch of 12 February, the first anniversary of the award of Du’s licence. The cellco’s CEO, Chief Osman Sultan, said in January that he was expecting 500,000 pre-booked subscribers by the time the network became operational.
