T-Mobile UK reveals 2006 subscriber figures

2 Feb 2007

T-Mobile UK, a subsidiary of German incumbent telco Deutsche Telekom, has released figures which show its subscriber base grew by 246,000 in the last three months of 2006, bringing net additions for the year to 923,000 and the total number of UK customers to 16.9 million. These results include Virgin Mobile subscribers, who use T-Mobile’s network and are counted in T-Mobile pre-pay figures. At the end of December, 3.7 million customers were taking a post-paid contract, a 25% increase over the previous twelve months. Pre-pay additions for the year were relatively low at 191,000, making a total non-contract base of 13.2 million coming into 2007; this is said to be deliberate as T-Mobile has sought to focus on high-value, low-churn post-pay business.
