MTS sets aside USD200m for 3G

Russia’s largest cellular operator, MTS, says it is planning to invest around USD200 million in 2007 on the deployment of its 3G network. Speaking at a press conference, the firm’s vice-president for IT Sergey Aslanyan said that MTS is expecting to win a licence in the government’s forthcoming 3G auction. Applications for concessions are being accepted until 26 February. MTS has more than 51.2 million subscribers across Russia.
