Tiscali sells German customer base to freenet.de

1 Feb 2007

Italian ISP Tiscali has agreed to sell its entire German residential subscriber base to Hamburg-based telco freenet.de for a sum expected to be around EUR30 million (USD38.9 million). Tiscali’s decision to sell is in line with its strategy of focusing on the Italian and UK broadband markets. The sale is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2007, after it has gained German antitrust approval. Tiscali ended 2006 with around 380,000 internet subscribers in Germany, of whom around a third took a DSL connection. freenet.de, set to complete a protracted merger with reseller mobilcom very soon, was thought to have signed up its millionth broadband customer in the final quarter of last year.
