Mobilkom to offer 7.2Mbps HSDPA service

Mobilkom Austria plans to begin upgrading its cellular network with HSDPA 7.2 and HSUPA technologies in the second quarter, aiming to cover 85% of the country’s population with the high speed system by year-end. HSDPA 7.2 offers peak download speeds of 7.2Mbps, while HSUPA provides peak upload rates of 1.4Mbps. Mobilkom will begin marketing Vodafone Mobile Connect cards for HSUPA in March, while all customers with the Vodafone Mobile Connect Card Broadband 3.6 package can download a free software upgrade from next month which will give access to the HSDPA 7.2 service. Mobilkom is Austria’s largest cellular operator, with 3.63 million subscribers at the end of December.
