Chilean fixed line and mobile operator Entel posted a net profit of CLP100 billion (USD183 million) in 2006, up 38% on the previous year. Revenues reached CLP809 billion, up 3.4% compared to CLP782 billion in 2005. The improved results were largely due to an increase in wireless customers, plus growth in the sales of data transmission and IT services. Local telephony reported an 11% increase, boosted by a higher number of lines and the launch of next generation services. The mobile unit, Entel PCS, closed 2006 with over 4.1 million subscribers, with revenues growing 19% to CLP558 billion compared to CLP468 billion in 2005.
