Iraqtel and Huawei sign CDMA deal

30 Jan 2007

Chinese vendor Huawei Technologies has inked a deal with Iraqtel to build a 3G CDMA2000 network. No details as to the value of the contract have been revealed, but it is thought that the network will begin commercial operations within the next few months. Iraqtel, one of the recipients of the national wireless in the local loop (WiLL) licences awarded in September 2006, has already employed Canadian vendor Redline to build a WiMAX network in the southern city of Basrah which the telco claims will provide a cost-effective alternative to VSAT for broadband connections.
