Etisalat profits up 38% in 2006

Middle East and North Africa Financial News (MENAFN), quoting local source Khaleej Times, reports that incumbent Emirati telco Etisalat made USD1.6 billion profit last year, compared with USD1.16 billion in 2005. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, at the end of 2006 Etisalat served 1.28 million fixed lines, 5.49 million mobile customers and an estimated 200,000 broadband subscribers.
