29 Jan 2007

Indonesian publicly-listed telecoms company PT Indosat plans to launch a tender to construct a new telecommunications satellite, writes local newspaper Antara News. Indosat company director Wityasmoro Sih Handayanto is quoted as saying that nine companies from around the world have expressed an interest in building the Palapa D orbiter, which is scheduled to replace Palapa C2 when the latter’s working life ends in 2011. Handayanto went on to say that the new platform will be launched in 2009 and will occupy an orbit of 113 degrees east longitude. The Indonesian Satellite Association estimates that Palapa D will cost around USD200 million to build.
