Chilean incumbent fixed line operator Telefónica Chile posted net profits of CLP23.4 billion (USD43.4 million) in 2006, down 9.2% from CLP25.7 billion in 2005, the company said in a statement. Revenues for the year were CLP577 billion, a 2.6% drop compared to CLP581 billion in 2005, of which fixed line telephony accounted for 31.7%. Broadband generated CLP61.3 billion, a 40% increase and representing 10.6% of the total, up from 7.4% the previous year. According to Telefónica, it has a 49% share of the broadband market in Chile. Digital TV services, which the company launched in June last year, generated CLP3.79 billion.
