KPN sells off telecom towers to TDF of France

23 Jan 2007

Dutch incumbent KPN Telecom yesterday revealed it is to sell off 23 telecommunications towers and reassign an additional one to TDF of France, a company which specialises in transmission network services. Dow Jones writes that the move will enable KPN to comply with terms set by the Dutch Competition Authority NMa when it acquired Nozema. At the time, KPN said that it did not see the ownership of the towers as ‘core’ to its business. The Dutch firm’s equipment for telephony, data, radio and TV broadcasting will remain in the towers under a ten-year lease signed by the two parties. Operational support is also being passed to TDF under the deal, which has yet to be approved by the NMa.
