Telekom Austria confirms interest in OTE

Telekom Austria’s CEO Boris Nemsic has confirmed his company’s interest in bidding for an approximately 20% stake in Greek telecoms group OTE, whilst adding that he does not expect the Austrian incumbent to be one of the leading suitors. ‘We are examining [OTE] very closely, also because OTE is expanding in…Southeast Europe, as we are. That’s why it is almost our duty to concern ourselves with it,’ Nemsic told financial magazine Format. He added: ‘You must remember that OTE is a very successful and very well-managed company. The interests of both the buyer and seller must be mutual. We are not the favourite. Global players like Deutsche Telekom or Spain’s Telefónica will probably put in an offer.’
