BT has selected Nortel and Siemens to supply carrier scale Ethernet solutions for its 21st Century Network (21CN) program. BT will use the new Ethernet solutions to transport high-bandwidth services ranging from business applications to IPTV. Devices being supplied by the two equipment manufacturers will incorporate emerging IEEE standards, Provider Backbone Bridging Traffic Engineering (PBB-TE) and Provider Backbone Transport (PBT) to enable the use of Ethernet as a carrier class transport mechanism. Nortel will supply its Metro Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 and Metro Ethernet Service Unit 1850 while Siemens will supply its SURPASS hiD Ethernet carrier-class switches, element management, systems integration and support services.
