Taiwan’s three main mobile operators have reported preliminary 2006 financial results. Cellular and wireline market leader Chunghwa Telecom said revenues were up 0.5% year-on-year to TWD184.39 billion (USD5.67 billion), with TWD72.98 billion coming from mobile services, TWD61.6 billion from fixed line telephony and the remainder from internet and other services. Chunghwa claimed more than four million broadband users at the end of December, DigiTimes reports, with over 2.4 million subscribing to packages with download speeds of 2Mbps and above.
The country’s second largest cellular operator, Taiwan Mobile, saw annual revenues reach TWD58.91 billion (USD1.18 billion) in 2006, down from TWD60.04 billion a year earlier, while pre-tax profit stood at TWD18.91 billion (TWD18.8 billion in 2005). DigiTimes reports that third-placed operator Far EasTone saw revenues of TWD67.23 billion and pre-tax profit of TWD16.13 billion, down from TWD67.41 billion and TWD17.92 billion respectively.
