BNamericas, quoting local source La Nación, reports that Telecom Argentina, the Buenos Aires based former wireline monopoly, added around 75,000 broadband customers in the final quarter of 2006, taking its subscriber base to 450,000. A similar number were added in the third quarter, and the rise has been attributed to the launch of the entry level Arnet 640K package in April 2006. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, at the end of September 2006 Telecom Argentina was the second largest broadband operator in the country in terms of customer numbers, marginally behind rival Telefónica de Argentina.
