TeliaSonera inks exclusive agreement with Danish chain Merlin

5 Jan 2007

TeliaSonera has completed an agreement with the Danish electronics chain Merlin, giving the retailer exclusive rights to sell the cellco’s mobile telephony services in its 48 shops throughout the country. The deal means that TeliaSonera now has a total of 104 retail outlets in Denmark, including the Merlin chain, helping strengthen its position in the local market.

Commenting on the deal, Kenneth Karlberg, President and Head of Business Area Mobility Services in TeliaSonera, said: ‘Thanks to the agreement with Merlin, we will be more easily accessible to our Danish customers, as our geographical sales channels now expand in Denmark. Besides, Merlin already has telecom competence, and its focus is very much on TeliaSonera’s mobile telephony services. The agreement also gives us a better opportunity to increase our market share on the tough Danish market’.

The two firms have worked together since 2004 when Merlin struck a deal with the Swedish-based giant to sell its products and services under the Telia Denmark brand name.
