Chunghwa Telecom says it will take two to three weeks to repair undersea cables damaged by the recent earthquake off Taiwan’s southern coast. The firm says that two ships are being sent to the area to begin the repair work. Meanwhile, Chunghwa has revealed more details of its TWD129 billion (USD3.89 billion) infrastructure investment plans for the next five years. TWD61 billion will go towards upgrades of its fixed line networks, replacing copper lines with fibre-optic cables. Another TWD68 billion will be spent on the upgrade and expansion of its mobile networks. Chunghwa expects to have 2.5 million customers for its fibre-based broadband services by 2011, up from around 150,000 at present.
