Alcatel-Lucent acquires Nortel’s UMTS mobile access business

3 Jan 2007

Alcatel-Lucent has announced the completion of its purchase of the UMTS mobile access business from Nortel in a deal worth around USD320 million. The equipment vendor hopes the acquisition will help it increase its presence in emerging markets such as China. Nortel meanwhile, says it sold the loss-making division after deciding there was little chance of turning the unit around.
