Vodafone UK will become the latest mobile operator to enter the crowded British broadband sector when it launches a commercial nationwide service on 7 January, writes The Guardian. The cellco sees broadband internet access as a means of both attracting new users and maintaining its mobile subscriber base in a saturated wireless market. it has teamed up with BT, which will provide infrastructure access to support the launch, to roll out its Vodafone At Home nationwide service. For GBP25 (USD48.9) per month post-paid customers will get 8Mbps broadband access plus 24/7 technical support. Subscribers will have to sign up to an 18-month contract, but will receive a free modem as part of the deal. A wireless modem will cost an extra GBP25.
