Vimpelcom tests Georgian network

Georgian start-up cellco Mobitel, a subsidiary of Russia’s Vimpelcom, has launched a test GSM-1800MHz network, following a six-month rollout of infrastructure capable of serving 300,000 subscribers, with the possibility of further expansion to a million users. Vimpelcom acquired its 51% stake in Mobitel for USD12.6 million in July 2006.
