Telefónica requests permission to land

2 Jan 2007

Telefónica International Wholesale Services (TIWS), a subsidiary of Spain’s Telefónica, has asked Ecuador’s telecoms regulator Senatel for authorisation to register its undersea fibre-optic cable system, reports BNamericas. The SAM-1 network, which connects Central, North, and South America, passes along Ecuador’s coast but does not currently have a landing station in the country. The authorisation will enable Telefónica to connect the cable to Punta Carnero in Guayas province.
